Ok, so we knew that there was no way Hellcat was going to top the Dodge lineup for long, at least not with the Viper still in the picture. According to a new report form Allpar.com, Dodge is considering a supercharged V10 for the new snake.

This new engine — says the report — is Viper’s response to Hellcat. As the original halo car, engineers (and fans) feared that the new Charger and Challenger might overshadow the iconic supercar.

But with this new engine in place, the Viper could put out a mind-boggling 800 horsepower. That’s definitely enough to make us forget about Hellcat— at least for a minute or two.

Those 800 horses would be a 25 percent increase from the already powerful 640-horsepower 8.4-liter V10.

And with the Viper weighing 3354 lbs., that would easily make it one of the quickest American cars ever built, and put it in direct competition with the likes of the McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari, etc.

Nothing’s set in stone just yet, of course. But if the idea of a supercharged Viper doesn’t get you excited, you might want to check your pulse.
