No matter what anyone says about electric cars being the future, there will always be a part of our hearts as automotive enthusiasts that yearns for great exhaust notes. Think about all the wonderful sounding exhaust rumblings throughout history. All the V12 Ferraris and Lamborghinis that burble and whine like an automotive symphony.

 

With that thought in mind, you might want to take a listen at the new Shelby GT350R Mustang. But before you do, remember that this amazing Mustang has 500 horsepower, a flat-plane crank V8, and a redline of 8,500 rpm. It sounds like a Mustang that arose from the deepest, darkest depths of hell.

While we’re still a few months off from getting behind the wheel of this astounding piece of engineering, these small little clips offer quite a chunk of information on the new car. How it takes corners, how easy it is to heel-toe, and how freaking aurally orgasmic it will sound. We can’t wait.

Lamborghini Aventador SV Sells Out in Record Time

Those hoping to get their paws on the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV are out of luck. It debuted just three months ago, and already they’ve sold all 600 units of the ridiculously powerful supercar.

 

There will be 200 heading to North and South America, 200 heading to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and 200 heading to the Asia Pacific. The cars will be all over the world, but in such small numbers that you’ll be lucky to catch one in the wild.

This Lamborghini has a naturally aspirated V12 with 750 horsepower. It’s also lost 110 pounds giving the modest 50 horsepower increase over the standard LP700-4 a little more punch. Bigger changes come from all the aerodynamic tweaks with a huge rear wing and diffusers both front and rear.

These improvements provide for some rather impressive numbers. It can move from 0-62 mph in all of 2.8 seconds and has a top speed somewhere over 217 mph. The 600 lucky new owners of this Lamborghini plunked down a whopping €327,190 in Europe or $493,069 in the US for the privilege of owning this car. Looks to be worth every penny.

Dodge Unleashes a Monstrous 2,590HP Virtual Supercar for Gran Turismo 6

It’s hard not to argue that Dodge is the current king of horsepower. What with 707-horsepower Charger and Challenger Hellcats in the lineup, affordable horsepower is less than $70K away. But what if Dodge went after Ferrari and McLaren on the (virtual) track?

 

That’s exactly what they did with this 2,590-horsepower monster of a machine called the Tomahawk. Don’t worry, though, it won’t be wreaking havoc on any neighborhood streets near you. Or real-life tracks, for that matter.

The Tomahawk hypercar concept was created in collaboration with Gran Turismo designers specifically for the new Gran Turismo 6 video game. Yes, it has a ridiculous amount of power, but it was created by SRT engineers to predict the future of racing 20 years from now. That means the 7.0-liter V10 under the hood is helped by a hybrid gasoline-pneumatic powertrain.

 

It also comes in three flavors: S, with 700 horsepower, GTS-R with 1,450 horsepower, and the hardcore 2,950-horsepower Tomahawk X. The latter should be the one you really want to drive.

The Gran Turismo team hasn’t announced when the Tomahawk will be available for download. When it is, it should blow all other virtual supercars out of the water.

This 1989 BMW M3 Has a V10 Heart and Supercar Price Tag

The E30 BMW M3 is a performance motoring icon – a car known for its nimble handling, engine potency, stunning appearance, as well as rarity. It’s also a car you don’t want to rip apart if you don’t have to. This one however, has been. 

 

And it’s a jaw-dropper. This E30 now boasts a massive 5.7-liter V10 engine, the suspension from an E90 BMW M3, and brake discs that look the size of manhole covers. A true Frankenstein car, its grandeur commands a rather supercar-esque price tag of $224,500 on eBay. We’ll give you a moment to collect yourself.

Built by Virginia’s Piper Motorsport, this “Land Rocket” M3 is described as a “cost no object” build. It’s easy to understand why with the amount of work that went into creating it. The most prominent addition is the 5.7-liter V10 lurking underneath the hood. The stroker engine came courtesy of the BMW performance experts at Dinan. Although stats are unlisted for this car, this engine produced 628 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque in Dinan’s own M6 S3. No turbo trickery here, just a big free-breathing V10 punch of power.

 

Underneath, E90 M3 front and rear subframes and suspension find a home, complemented by a good deal of ancillary shoehorning. The firewall and transmission tunnel were cut in order to allot space for the new six-speed manual gearbox, driveshaft, and the V10’s factory headers. Up front, a custom intake manifold was created in order to clear the hood, and the airboxes were crammed in between wheel wells and headlights.

Here’s the interesting part, though. The ‘Franken M3’ weighs in at an alleged 3,000 pounds, which puts it around 150 pounds more than the original car… V10 included. After the build, Piper Motorsport mentioned that the weight distribution actually improved in the process. Not bad for a four-cylinder to V10 swap.

With only 30,000 miles on the clock and that gargantuan $224,500 price tag – this stunning E30 is certainly not a BMW most people can afford. Though if you are looking for something a bit less extravagant, there are a few more down-to-earth E30 M3s up for grabs too.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Shows Off Perfect 50/50 Weight Balance

The 4th generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata made its debut earlier this year in Monterey, California, with a live-streamed event broadcast across the globe. It received a whole new design that follows the cues set by the rest of the Mazda lineup while still looking like an MX-5.

 

It also maintained its perfect 50/50 weight distribution while coming in at tipping the scales at only 2,332 pounds. The design team focused on reducing weight through what they called a “gram strategy” that looked at everything on the car to see if even the smallest savings could be achieved.

 

The Mazda team decided to show off the car’s perfect balance in this video which features commentary by engineer Dave Coleman and MX-5 program manager Rod McLaughlin. They took their new pride and joy and stuck it on an aluminum balance beam to see if the car would stay perfectly centered with a man in the driver’s seat.

It’s a fairly complicated stunt. Even though you know it’s going to work (or they wouldn’t have been showing this video), you’ll still hold your breath a little as the guys walk away from the balance beam and leave the car on its own. Bet the guy in the driver’s seat was holding his breath, too.

2016 Chrysler 300 SRT Coming…Just Not to the U.S.

Those in the U.S. hoping to get their hands on the sexy new 2016 Chrysler 300 SRT look like they’re out of luck. A few weeks after spy shots of a possible prototype surfaced on the Internet, a spokesman for FCA has stated that it will definitely not be coming stateside. Life just isn’t fair.

 

Rumors started swirling when the prototype was spotted driving the streets of Michigan without anything to disguise its new lines. The updated Chrysler 300 SRT sports a new front bumper, new grille, and additional LED lights. There’s also a trunk-mounted rear spoiler, dual exhausts, and new taillights. It looks mighty fine, though, you can’t have one if you’re in the U.S.

Unfortunately, FCA has said it’s only going to hit the roads outside the US. No details have been confirmed about what’s hiding under the hood, but we can make a good guess.

It probably has a Hemi V8 6.4-liter that will give drivers 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque to play. It will also likely have an 8-speed automatic transmission, but we’ll have to wait awhile longer to hear the details directly from FCA.

Surprise! The Smallest Car in the World Isn’t a Peel P50

With an original production run that spanned from 1962 to 1964, the infamous Peel P50 holds the title of the world’s smallest production car. But – surprise, surprise – did you know it isn’t the world’s smallest road-legal car?

 

That distinctive honor goes to this one-off creation, built by Austin Coulson of Phoenix, Arizona. The Guinness World Record certified car measures in at 25 inches tall, just over two feet wide, and a slight four feet long. And befitting its world record title, it’s licensed and registered as a low-speed vehicle, and can be driven on public roads up to a speed limit of 25 mph.

Coulson’s creation was officially certified by the record keeping body in September 2012. Since then it has been able to successfully keep its title. The starting point? Coulson describes that his car is completely custom built, with the body intended to resemble that of a ’57 Chevrolet Bel Air. Underneath, the custom frame was hand fabricated and it houses a teensy gas engine, sourced from a child’s quad bike.

Though small, it is replete with road-safety features necessary for federal approval, including windshield safety glass, wipers, a seat belt, horn, as well as Department of Transportation approved headlights, taillights, and turn signals. Its styling is pulled nicely together by the rather ironic ‘IM BIG’ Texas license plate, and additionally a paint scheme inspired by the P51 Mustang fighter plane.

One might expect the smallest car in the world to record unthinkable gains in miles per gallon. Coulson estimates his creation nets around 45 mpg. Given the car has a top speed of 33 mph and the fuel tank holds only a half gallon of gas, it’s likely an arduous figure to calculate.
