One’s perception of time is subjective. A trip to the dentist can take days, a Wednesday at the office can take weeks. But a Mustang SVT Cobra making an eight second pass? That’s simply and undisputedly very, very fast. 

And that is exactly the kind of performance this Cobra unleashed during a recent drag race at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois. When the lights fell the Cobra absolutely leapt off the line, clobbering the first 60 feet in 1.26 seconds, soaring to a heady 150.51 miles per hour, and nipping the quarter mile in 8.99 seconds. Take a look.




This is one gen-four Mustang that you don’t want to mess with. The Cobra, either an ’03 or an ’04, came from the factory with Ford’s supercharged 4.6-liter V8, making an even 390 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. It now features a TVS supercharger and given the sound it’s outputting, it’s safe to say those figures are quite a bit greater now.
The later of the fourth generation Mustang Cobras also received a six-speed manual. It doesn’t sound like it still lives underneath that body, but if it does, this driver is rowing those gears like an Olympian.
