Mitsuoka is Finally Retiring the Painful-Looking Orochi

Mitsuoka has announced that it will end production of its oddly styled Orochi coupe by September of this year. While that news might be terribly disappointing for one or two JDM fans out there, it shouldn’t raise many alarms with the mainstream crowd. The Orochi was born in concept form way back in 2001, and made it into production in 2006.

The Orochi won’t fade into the distance quietly though; Mitsuoka plans to offer five Final Edition models wearing “Gold Pearl” or “Fuyoru” paint schemes, along with a front spoiler, rear wing, and 19-inch wheels. Inside, the company has massaged two-tone leather and Alcantara into the seats and steering wheel, finished with metallic embellishments.

Underneath the hood, the Orochi Final Edition keeps its Toyota 3.3L V6 engine, which delivers a damp 230-horsepower and 242 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic. For a point of reference, Toyota stopped putting that motor in its own cars back in 2010. Take the hint.



Outside of the fishy looks, 230-horsepower to the rear wheels isn’t exactly a terrible proposition, but add in the $124,180 price tag and you’re looking at a seriously thin group of buyers.
