1955-1957, THE GOLDEN YEARS AT CHEVROLET

Let's face it, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air rolls down the street  and I bet 90% of the population would know what kind of car it is. And for every person that recognizes that car, They possibly hold some king of personal memory of that vehicle.

It's not to say that they had to own one, maybe they knew someone who owned one, or maybe it just was seeing that car for the first time.

It makes you wonder if when Chevrolet had the 1955 Chevrolet on the drawing board, they probably didn't realize the '55 to '57 Chevrolets would some day be bonded together as the '55 to '57 trio. These three model years were shaped together in a group all it's own, an exclusive club of sorts.

In the early 1950's, Chevrolet set out to start with a fresh piece of paper, designing a car that was in a league of it's own. It was given a 265 C.I. small block V-8 engine, which I think at the time was also in a league of it's own too. The engine design that Chevrolet created 59 years ago is basically used today in today's Chevrolet automobiles. Yes the engines of today have a lot of upgrades and improvements, but deep down it's the same basic design. A pushrod, small block V-8.

Obviously Chevrolet has designed other V-8's, small block and big block, but it all started with the 1955 265 C.I. pushrod V-8.

There 's something missing here, Oh yes !, the 1956 Chevrolet, This is the part of the Trio that doesn't get it's share of attention. It's like the '55's & the '57's

, they all shared different styling cues. I'm not sure why this car is treated like an ugly stepchild, but it really does deserve it's day in the sun.
