LET'S TALK CLASSICS.........1932 AUBURN BOATAIL SPEEDSTER

Three classic cars actually had nothing to do with the "Motor City", Detroit. The Auburn, Cord, and the Duesenbergs were all built in Auburn, Indiana.

The DNA of these three rolling pieces of art stretches all the way back to 1875. The Auburn Automobile Co. was a spinoff the Eckhart Carriage Co. by Charles Eckhart of Auburn, Indiana.

As time went on, the Auburn Auto. Co. was sold in 1919 to a group of Chicago investors, then again in 1925 to Errett Lobban Cord. Somewhere along the line, Mr. Cord acquired the Duesenburg Co., which was founded in 1913 by August & Frederick Duesenberg in Des Moines, Iowa.

Unfortunately, the crash of the Stock Market in 1929, and the Great Depression that followed, took it's toll on Mr. Cord's Auto Co. There was also some evidence of stock manipulation linking Mr. Cord to that activity and he was forced to sell his stocks to the holding company.

The last Auburns, Cords & Duesenburgs were produced in 1937.
