DIY Pedal-Powered Porsche is a Different Kind of Hybrid

Earlier this morning we showed you one ultra-rare supercar for sale, but good luck affording it. Of course, if you want the performance you’ll have to pay, but if you want the look of an exotic car, one crafty enthusiast might have an option for you.

A DIY’er in Europe has created a pedal-powered Porsche. Now, before you scratch your head, wondering how a human can pedal around a car that weighs several thousand pounds, understand that this very accurate car is actually constructed of gold wrapping over PVC pipes. The result is (nearly) a spitting image of a Porsche 911 GT3.

The car starts with a base that is a low-slung quadra-cycle. The ingenious craftsman then uses templates to size up the car to the real thing. What seems like miles of PVC are then worked together in a patchwork that supports the body of cardboard and duct tape. The final coat is the gold later.

All being said, this pedal-powered Porsche looks the part. We wonder if people even know that the car going by them in traffic is as far from a real Porsche as you can get. It would be interesting to see what kind of issues one might have with local traffic laws.
