How Much Will Rick Hendrick Pay for the First 2015 Corvette Z06?

Even though we all knew it was coming, the reveal of the 2015 Corvette Z06 still blew us away.

With at least 625 horsepower and 635 pound-feet of torque from its supercharged 6.2 liter V8, the new Z06 is modeled very closely after the also-new C7.R race car, which was revealed alongside the Z06 at the Detroit Auto Show.

But there was one person for whom the reveal meant even more, and that person is Rick Hendrick.

The dealership-owning, race-car-driving billionaire has been on hand to buy just about every historically significant new Chevy production car to cross the auction block in the past few years.

With the first production 2015 Corvette Z06 heading to auction to raise money for charity, the only real question is how much will Hendrick pay for his new toy?

GM has put both the first production 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible up for auction in the last year, and Hendrick paid more than a million bucks for each.

He also paid a hefty sum for the first production Chevy Volt, showing at least some diversity in his automotive tastes. But the 2015 Corvette Z06 is definitely more his speed, if you’ll pardon the pun.

This time around the money will benefit the Karmanos Cancer Institute. When the first production 2015 Corvette Z06 rolls across the auction block on April 12th at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach event, and you can bet that Rick Hendrick will be on hand.

So how much will he spend? We’re thinking at least a million bucks, and possibly more if a bidding war breaks out.

On the other hand, are there any other collectors who are tired of Hendrick hogging all the Corvettes? Could make for some interesting, high-stakes drama at the next Barrett-Jackson auction.
