For those of you unaware of the latest developments at Dodge, the famed Challenger R/T “Shaker” is back and it’s heading to dealer floors near you as we speak. But while the reintroduction of the famous Shaker model, this time in modern retro-throwback form, is a story in itself, it’s actually the astonishing sales numbers of this particular model that are causing a stir in the automotive community. After all, dealers have already ordered the total allotment of Shakers for the year, and it only took four days.
The 2014 Challenger R/T Shaker was introduced to the industry back in early November at the 2013 SEMA Show and now the model is moving on to the sales floor at dealerships all across the country.
Among the car’s features are a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine, good for 400hp, a standard Tremec 6-speed gearbox, and the Super Trak Pak- which gives the car high-performance rearend gears, monotube shocks and brake linings, as well as three-mode electronic stability control and P245/45R20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car three-season tires.
The Shaker also comes standard with 20×8-inch polished-face aluminum wheels, a premium Nappa leather interior, unique “Shaker Style” paint scheme, with a satin black hood, deck-lid spoiler, and roof/deck-lid stripes, and of course, the famous “Shaker” engine-mounted hood scoop.
Built as an ode to the 1970 Challenger R/T Shaker, the new model offers enthusiasts everything they fell in love with on the classic, only with loads of modern amenities.
What’s even better, is that even with all the upgrades, the Shaker model starts at just $2,500 more than regular Challenger R/T Classic. Custom hood-to-tail stripes can be added for an extra $500.
Looking to make this car an exclusive edition, the Chrysler Group only allotted 2,000 models for the 2014 model year, a number that dealerships gobbled up in just four days. According to President and CEO of the Dodge Brand, Tim Kuniskis, this is a good sign for the limited-production vehicle.
“Based on this strong initial demand, it’s clear that our customers are excited about the return of the legendary Shaker model, which was engineered for enthusiasts who asked for even more attitude and a dose of muscle car heritage,” Kuniskis stated in a recent press release. “The 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine with the unique hood and intake design makes this performance car an instant classic – much like the original 1970 Challenger R/T with the Shaker hood.”
With only 2,000 Shakers released for the year 2014, we’re sure that these iconic throwback models will be sold out in a matter of weeks from dealer floors, so if you’re in the market for one and you happen to come across one that isn’t spoken for, you’d be best off grabbing it while you can!
