Stunning Delahaye USA Pacific Evokes Bugatti Atlantic

BOLD RIDE

00-Pacific

The Bugatti Type 57S Atlantic is one of the most rare, most beautiful and subsequently, most expensive cars of all time. The craftsmanship, performance and stunning style all make for a car so valuable that most of us will never get in the same building as an Atlantic– forget owning or even driving one. So what is a Bugatti aficionado to do?
Delahaye USA has created a vehicle with classic lines and modern underpinnings. In an obvious nod to the original name, it is called the Pacific, and truly looks the part. The Pacific was the idea of Peter Mullin of the Mullins Automotive Museum, and was built by Terry Cook. They call it a recreation rather than a replica, giving the Delahaye USA a little design wiggle room.

The Pacific has a 127-inch wheelbase– 10 inches longer than the original 1937 design. It is powered by a BMW-sourced 5.0-liter V12. It is actually an older M70B50 engine, used in the 87-95 BMW 7 Series and 89-94 8 Series. If mechanically unchanged, it is a little underwhelming at 300 horsepower and 330 pound feet of torque.

The cabin has a supremely upscale quality, with a vintage aesthetic. One example was available at Hemmings for $275,000– not bad when you consider the original Type 57S Atlantic would allegedly set you back $40 million!
