SRT Suspends Viper Production for Two Months Citing Slow Sales

The new SRT Viper is one of the biggest, boldest cars on the market. But it would seem customers aren’t chomping at the bit to own one of these monster machines, considering SRT’s recent announcement — a two-month idling of Viper production.

With SRT selling a mere 91 Vipers in January, February and the beginning of this month, a total of 756 unsold vehicles are sitting ownerless at the Detroit plant. This massive stock of vehicles represents a 412-vehicle supply, and is leading to the firing of 91 hourly plant workers.

“Chrysler Group confirms that its Conner Avenue Assembly Plant will be down, beginning the week of April 14. Production will resume the week of June 23,” Chrysler officials said in a statement to Autonews.
As a reminder, the 640 horsepower, V10-powered SRT Viper does have a whopping starting price of over $100K, and is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.
