If there's one car that can be held responsible for Datsun's emergence on the U.S. scene, it's the 510. Nicknamed the "poor man's" BMW 2002, in reality, it was every bit a match for the bigger marques - as documented by its Trans-Am victories in 1971 and '72, beating Horst Kweck in the mighty Alfa Romeo, with John Morton at the wheel.
I had the honor of driving Morton's Datsun BRE 510 a year or so ago, and it was one of the most magical experiences of my life. What a glorious little car, and with Nissan commiting to produce the IDx concept, we may see a modern day version hitting show floors in the future. If you have a shot to share, please add it to the Motoramic group on Flickr, or send us a message via Twitter, Facebook and Google+, and thanks to Drew for this one.
