Bolting some Mopar goodies onto a Dodge Challenger is always good for a little extra speed, but the Mopar ’14 Challenger redefines fast. In less than 24 hours, Dodge sold its entire run of the limited-edition Mopar-ized Challengers, which consisted of just 100 examples.
First introduced at last year’s SEMA Show, the Mopar ’14 Challenger stands out with its black wheels, shaker hood, blue accents and a handful of options for various strip packages. Of the 100 Mopar ’14 Challengers, Dodge says that 52 were ordered in Pitch Black while the others came in Bright White (the only two colors offered on the car), while other popular options included a cat-back exhaust system and hood pins.
This is the fifth year that the limited-edition Mopar models have been offered. Past models included the Dodge Charger in 2011, the Chrysler 300 in 2012, the Dodge Dart last year and the Challenger kicked the trend off back in 2010.
Even though it starts life as a 5.7-liter Hemi-powered R/T trim, the Mopar ’14 Challenger’s starting price of $40,490 means that it costs almost as much as the performance-minded SRT. What it gives up in performance, it makes up for exclusivity and collectability.
