Not only is this ride the first 1969 Shelby GT350 convertible, its also the first GT350 ever built (VIN #0001). Only 51,400 original miles have been dialed in on her clock. It’s interesting to note that she is right hand drive, this is because she has spent her entire life
down under in Australia.
Despite being 45 years old, the car looks like it only left the showroom yesterday. Its cherry red & white striped paint job is so spotless and clean you can see your reflection in it. White leather buckets up front, a white leather bench in the rear, leather door paneling, wood grain dash and accents make up the interior. On the dash all of the original gauges work, the instrument cluster contains an 8000 RPM tach and a 140 MPH speedo. Underneath her hood is the 351W, which still roars as loud as it did when it rolled off the assembly line.
For the 1969 year the Shelby GT350 received an extensive facelift and a body expansion of 4 inches, giving this wild mare a meaner presence. Her 351 was topped with an Autolite four barrel carb feeding the 10:7:1 compression which made 290 horses and 385 lb-ft of torque, which pushes you back into your seat. The 351 is mated to an FMX automatic transmission, and a Ford 9-inch rearend with Traction-Lok limited slip lets you really get lost when you put the spurs to her.
The VINs have been verified by the by the American Shelby Register confirming that it is the original number 1. The owner is asking for a staggering price of $495,000. We would like to know, is this low miles, number 1 survivor worth the hefty price tag of half a million dollars?
