Last week, we brought you Adam Levine’s gorgeous Porsche 356, and yesterday we showed you a wonderful 928 creation. Perhaps you’ve got a Porsche itch that needs scratching. Or maybe you want to put one of Stuttgart’s masterpieces in your garage. Look no further than this 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet, our eBay Find of the Week.

While the Porsche 911 is undoubtedly the company’s greatest offering, the 944 S2 might be its best-kept secret. Porsche produced the S2 for only three years, between 1989 and 1991, which capped off the end of the 944’s production run. But as swan songs go, this was better than most.

The front-engined S2 boasted a beefy 3.0L naturally-aspirated four-cylinder that cranked out 208-horsepower to the rear wheels. Fed through Porsche’s manual transmission, the S2 accelerated from 0-60 mph in a respectable 6.5 seconds and onto a top speed of 150 mph. That made it quick enough to keep Corvette and RX-7 in close company.

Beautiful examples like this 1990 944 S2 don’t come along too often. The seller claims that the car has been in his family for over 12 years, and has received regular maintenance across its utterly low 41,976 miles. The timing belt was retensioned at around 30,000 miles, and the air conditioning unit was upgraded by Porsche to run on 134A refrigerant.

Everything that needs to be there – is there. The transmission is Porsche’s exceptional five-speed manual, rather than the lackluster three-speed auto. Many of the original documents and ancillaries are present, including the bill of purchase, factory spare tire, tool-kit, gloves, and tire bag. But the deal breaker here is the limited-slip differential, which was an $850 option at the time.

Admittedly it isn’t one of the coveted “Turbo” models and the cabriolet isn’t nearly as pretty as the coupe, but for a few less horses and a lot less money, it’s definitely the one we would buy. You can find the seller’s listing at this link, with bidding at $8,500.
