Honda Breaks A World Speed Record…On a Lawnmower [video]

When Honda announced its Mean Mower last year, we thought the Japanese automaker had officially gone insane. After all, engineers were concerning themselves more with a lawn mower than road cars. But it was all worth it…we guess.

With its self-proclaimed title as “World’s Fastest Lawnmower,” it wasn’t until recently that they called up the folks at Guinness World Records to make that title official. At 116.57 mph (187.60 km/h), the Mean Mower threw down an impressive world record in Spain, beating the previous record by over 28 mph (45 km/h).

In order to achieve such an odd feat, Honda fitted the mower with a 109-horsepower 1,000 cc V-twin engine, custom wheels, a custom suspension, and a low center of gravity. All at the hands of one willing race car driver.
