Metallica Frontman’s Jaguar “Black Pearl” is Custom Perfection
James Hetfield — aka, the lead singer of Metallica — is in possession of something very pretty. No, it’s not a much younger girlfriend, it’s a car. It’s a car that he likes to call, the “Black Pearl,” and it’s probably the prettiest custom you’ll see all week.
A long-time collector, Hetfield recently showed off his 1948 Jaguar saloon custom at the Goodguys 2014 Mother’s Custom of the Year Award. Expectedly, it took home the Best in Show prize.
Built from the ground up, the Black Pearl comes with full aluminum body panels on top of its classic Jag frame. Autoevolution reports the design was built by expert Rick Dore, and takes cues from European and American cars of the 1930s and 1940s. Under the hood sits a powerful Ford-sourced V8 pushing out 375 horsepower, and is paired to a Ford C4 automatic transmission. The interior is covered in cream white leather seats, and the outside covered in an eye-catching PPG black paint job.
It’s all pulled together and put on display in one perfect package.
