2015 Ferrari 458 Getting the Twin-Turbo Treatment, New Name

Since its introduction, the Ferrari 458 has securely fashioned itself as the performance benchmark for sports cars of the world, and quite a lofty one at that. Tally up nearly five years of production and Ferrari isn’t about to let the competition creep back.

Just like the newly turbocharged Ferrari California T, the Prancing Horse’s mid-engined 458 will get boosted for 2015, expected to reveal in full at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

According to the UK’s Car Magazine, the visually refreshed and mechanically recharged 458 will launch under a new moniker, the M458-T. If we’re honest, the name doesn’t flow as nicely as ‘Italia’ or ‘Speciale’, and seems more akin to a digit-happy McLaren. Or a calculator. Small quibble aside, we don’t doubt that this will still be an absolutely ballistic car.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8, the M458-T is expected to produce a stratospheric 670-horsepower. Count ‘em. That’s an extra 100hp over the outgoing 458 Italia, which can do 0-60mph in less than 3.4 seconds. Imagine what two turbos will do to that sprint …

Stylistically, we’re told things will change, slightly. The M458-T should still be the Ferrari you know and love, but with enhanced aerodynamic tweaks, restyled LED headlights, and of course bigger intakes to keep the intercoolers and turbos cool. Expect more info as the Geneva Motor Show draws closer.
