2015 Cadillac Overview

General Motors' luxury marque, Cadillac, continues to charge ahead with a steady rollout of updated and new models. This year marks the debut of the 2015 ATS coupe and a fully redesigned 2015 Escalade SUV, more powerful and feature-laden 2015 ATS sedan, full-size 2015 XTS sedan with amenities that take coddling to a new level, farewell tribute to the 2015 CTS-V coupe, and a host of safety and creature-comfort updates for the 2015 CTS sedan.

Not included in that list are the largely unchanged 2015 Cadillac SRX and the ELR hybrid coupe, for which 2015 model-year information is not yet available. The base CTS coupe and wagon, as well as the CTS-V sedan and wagon, have been discontinued.

Following in the tracks of the larger CTS, Cadillac's ATS sees its lineup expand for the 2015 model year with the introduction of an all-new 2-door, 4-passenger ATS coupe variant.

Power comes from a V-6 or turbocharged 4-cylinder engine--now boasting 272 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque--and buyers have their choice of rear- or all-wheel drive (RWD or AWD).

As for the 2015 Cadillac ATS sedan, it returns with slight revisions to the front end, updated CUE infotainment system with text-messaging capability, the latest OnStar telematics featuring a 4G connection and Wi-Fi connectivity, and option updates including the addition of lane-keep assist to the Driver Awareness package.

In addition to the turbocharged 4-cylinder and V-6, the ATS sedan is offered with a 202-horsepower 2.5-liter engine.

What's New:
  • All-new 4-passenger ATS coupe model
  • Updated front styling for ATS sedan
  • Available wireless phone charger
  • CUE infotainment system includes text-message alerts
  • Upgraded OnStar system with Wi-Fi mobile hotspot technology and 4G connection speed
  • Increased torque from turbocharged engine
  • Standard passive keyless entry
  • Crystal White Tricoat and Dark Adriatic Blue paint colors
  • Revised package content
  • New interior upholstery and accent trim offerings

Despite the new-car smell still emanating from the recently redesigned sedan model, the changes keep coming for the CTS.

The freshly-minted sedan is mildly updated with a revised grille that sports a new Cadillac emblem, the revised CUE and OnStar systems, tweaks to the interior and exterior color palettes, Driver Awareness package enhanced with lane-keep assist and lane-change alert features, and perpendicular parking capability integrated into the automatic park-assist system.

Also newsworthy is the debut of a limited-edition 2015 Cadillac CTS-V coupe model, with production limited to 500 vehicles.

Highlights include a black interior with red accent stitching, genuine wood trim, suede trim, and red brake calipers.

The previous-generation Cadillac CTS wagon and base coupe have not been carried over. Look for a new CTS-V sedan to arrive as a 2016 model.

  • Restyled grille and Cadillac emblem
  • Available wireless phone charger
  • CUE infotainment system includes text-message alerts

2015 Cadillac ELR

As this guide is written, Cadillac has not released details about the 2015 ELR.

Like the Chevrolet Volt, the front-wheel-drive (FWD) Cadillac ELR coupe employs a Lithium-ion battery pack, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine/generator, and a 55-kW electric motor to collectively provide propulsion.

According to the company, this plug-in model can be recharged in as few as 12.5 hours using a 120-volt outlet, or about 5 hours when hooked up to a 240-volt power source.

The electric-only range is estimated to be 37 miles, depending on driving style and other conditions, or up to 340 miles when the generator is working to recharge the battery.

The 2014 Cadillac ELR is available in a single trim level that can be upgraded with options such as forward-collision warning, intelligent cruise control, and adaptive headlights.

What's New:
  • 2015 model-year information not yet available
2015 Cadillac Escalade

Serving as proof that a market for large, capable, body-on-frame SUVs does indeed still exist are the redesigned 2015 Cadillac Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV models (and their corporate cousins, the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/Yukon XL).

As is the case with other 2015 Cadillacs, the modernized Escalades feature the latest OnStar and CUE infotainment systems, quieter cabin than previous versions, and a refined suspension system to provide improved handling and greater comfort.

The 2015s also aim to pique luxury SUV shoppers' interest with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque (compared with 2014's 403/417), fuel economy estimated to reach up to 21 mpg on the highway (up from 18 mpg), and the convenience of power-folding second- and third-row seats. Cadillac claims the 2015 Escalade can tow up to 8,300 lbs.

Other distinguishing features available on the newest Caddy are a programmable power liftgate, standard second-row heated bucket seats, 12.3-in. reconfigurable gauge display, 8-in. center screen using haptic technology, and an auto mode for the available 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system.

What's New:
  • Completely redesigned
  • Upgraded OnStar system with Wi-Fi mobile hotspot technology and 4G connection speed
  • Quieter and more efficient than predecessor
  • More powerful V-8 engine
  • Capless fuel filler
  • Programmable power liftgate
  • Fold-flat second- and third-row seats
  • Additional standard features
  • CUE infotainment system includes text-message alerts and Siri Eyes Free voice-control commands
  • 16-speaker Bose surround-sound system
  • Retuned suspension and brake systems
  • New 4WD system
  • Added safety features including a front center air bag

Compared with a few other Cadillac models, things are relatively quiet for the 5-passenger 2015 SRX crossover. Updates are limited to the addition of OnStar with 4G connection speed and Wi-Fi hotspot capability and new exterior color options.

Those interested in the 2015 SRX have their choice of FWD or AWD, trim levels ranging from Standard to Premium Collection, and options like a rear-seat entertainment system or a Driver Assist package comprised of front and rear automatic braking, intelligent cruise control, and forward-collision warning.

All SRX variants are equipped with a 308-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine.

What's New:
  • Upgraded OnStar system with Wi-Fi mobile hotspot technology and 4G connection speed
  • Cocoa Bronze Metallic and Majestic Plum Metallic paint colors

2015 Cadillac XTS

Cadillac's flagship sedan, the 5-passenger XTS, enters the 2015 model year with its share of modifications, few of which are obvious. Exceptions include new interior and exterior colors and an available set of painted 19-in. alloy wheels.

Otherwise, one needs to dig a little deeper to find the changes, among which are the upgraded OnStar system, optional heated and cooled front seats with a massaging feature and a rather mind-boggling 22 power adjustments, available lane-keep assist, and power-folding mirrors that are sure to come in handy when parked on narrow, heavily trafficked streets.

FWD and AWD XTS models are offered and fitted with a 305-horsepower V-6 or 410-horsepower, twin-turbocharged V-6 engine.

What's New:
  • Upgraded OnStar system with Wi-Fi mobile hotspot technology and 4G connection speed
  • Cocoa Bronze Metallic and Dark Adriatic Blue paint colors
  • New interior color and trim combinations
  • Optional lane-keep assist system
  • Available heated, cooled, massaging front seats with 22-way adjustment
  • Rear armrest with integrated sunshade and audio controls
  • Power-folding mirrors
  • Painted 19-in. alloy wheels
