June 11: “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” was released on this date in 1986

On this date 28 years ago, John Hughes' comedy "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was released, in which a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California played a central role. Real Ferrari 250 Californias routinely sell for anywhere in the $5-10 million range.
 
 However, the car in the photo above -- which Ian Mansfield photographed at the Royal Air Force Museum in April 2010 -- is one of three replicas Modena Design made for the film; Bonhams sold it for £79,600. Not a bad price, really. In Ferris' words: "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend it." Here's the original trailer, which needed more Ferrari:
