New Mazda RX-8 Could Happen, But Probably Won’t

Using Mazda’s new SkyActiv technology, the new RX-9 (?) would have an estimated output of close to 300 horsepower, up from the 238 horsepower RX-8 in which it would replace.

It could even use some form of turbocharging. That new engine would go along with an RX-7-inspired design and two-door layout.

Sticking with rear-wheel drive, the new Mazda coupe would use a six-speed manual and a five-speed automatic gearbox, says the rumor. A launch date will be somewhere near 2017.

Considering the source, we’ll take this new rumor with a grain of salt. Still, it’s an interesting thought, no matter how ridiculous it sounds.
