The team at Vengeance Racing just celebrated their purchase of a new 2015 Corvette Z06 with a massive burnout, on video, and they’ve also already strapped it to the dyno to see what its baseline numbers are. They’re impressive.

As reported by Corvette Forum, this particular example of the new Z06 pumps out 585 hp at the rear wheels, with 617 lb-ft of torque. Figuring a fairly standard 15% drivetrain loss along the way, and doing some backward math, that’s about 688 hp and 725 lb-ft at the crank—considerably more than the 650 hp and 650 lb-ft ratings from Chevrolet.

Of course, weather, the engine’s 20-mile status at that point, and the dyno’s calibration could all play a role in those figures. We’ll have to wait for more dyno runs on more cars to be made to know just how underrated the Z06 is out of the box—if at all—but at first impression, it looks like it may be quite a bit hotter than claimed.

And that’s great news for Corvette enthusiasts everywhere. For Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 Turbo fans, however, maybe not so much.
