The Eleanor Mustang that starred in the movie Gone in 60 Seconds somehow managed not to find a buyer when it went up for auction recently in Austin, Texas. The last time this car was up for sale in May 2013 it went for $1 million so it’s stunning that this time it didn’t sell.
This is one of the 11 cars that were built by Cinema Vehicle Services of North Hollywood for the movie, but not all could actually be driven. They didn’t all survive either with two meeting their demise during the bridge jump and crusher scenes.
The Eleanor that was on the block through Mecum Auctions was the one used for most of Nicolas Cage’s closeups. It also appeared on posters and various other promotional materials.
Chip Foose helped design the car, which includes a redesigned fiberglass front end, PIA driving lights, and new fender flares, side skirts and scoops, and trunk and hood lids.
Interior tidbits include an Autometer Sport Comp tachometer, fire extinguisher, Go-Baby-Go shift knob button and of course a nitrous injection system switch.
This beautiful Mustang is powered by a Ford Racing 351 cubic inch crate engine with Holley 700 CFM 4-barrel carburetors and a 4-speed manual transmission. It’s hard to believe this fantastic piece of memorabilia went unsold.
