The ugliest car of 2014 is ...
A CarInsurance.com survey ranked the ugliest new and redesigned cars of 2014, and the Chevrolet Spark EV took the top spot out of 10 models.

Drivers cruising in the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV have turned heads, and not in a good way.

The electric car is considered the ugliest redesigned or new 2014 car model, according to a CarInsurance.com survey released last week. The design repulsed respondents the most out of the 10 models included.

Drivers may sacrifice aesthetic value for affordability or greater fuel efficiency, though. In fact, 41 percent of respondents said they would choose a less showy car to save money. Five of the ten models were small hatchbacks and some, such as the Spark EV, are touted as fuel savers.

Here is how the car models scored out of 10, with 10 being the ugliest:

1. Chevrolet Spark EV (7.25)
2. Kia Soul (6.74)
3. Fiat 500L (6.48)
4. BMW i3 (6.14)
5. Mitsubishi Mirage (5.72)
6. Toyota 4Runner (5.13)
7. Mitsubishi Outlander (4.95)
8. Jeep Cherokee (4.82)
9. Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid (4.1)
10. BMW i8 (3.59)

Spark EV owners seemed to care little about the vehicle's appearance, as 42 percent of buyers said they want to "be different." Another 25 percent claimed they bought the car for its price.

Other Spark EV buyers seemed oblivious to the car's appearance, as 19 percent said they simply "didn't know" the car was ugly.
"We're still very proud of this product," said Annalisa Bluhm, Chevrolet communications representative for the Spark EV.

Bluhm noted that the Spark EV's cost, which falls just under $20,000, according to CarInsurance.com, and gas mileage made it a desirable car, despite any "subjective" misgivings about its appearance.

Perceived ugliness has yet to hurt sales for some models. Kelsey Mays of Cars.com told CarInsurance.com that unappealing models, including the Kia Soul and Jeep Cherokee are "selling like crazy."
Kia did not immediately respond to CNBC's request to comment on the Soul's ranking .

( BLOGGORS OPINION : I CAN'T BELIEVE THE TOYOTA PRIUS DID NOT MAKE THIS LIST. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN # 1. )
