The Mazda MX-5 is a cute, low, sporty car that’s all about having fun. But unfortunately, it doesn’t have the ground clearance one might desire when the snow starts to pile up on the roads. This problem has been overcome with the Mazda MX-5 Cross concept, which lifts the whole thing up a few inches creating a Frankenstein monster of a car.
You can credit (or blame), Theophilus Chin who created these renderings for this potential freak of nature. You won’t have to worry so much about getting stuck in the snow, but look what he did to that poor, helpless little car.
There’s no chance of this ever being built, so before you start gathering the villagers with their pitchforks and axes, relax. Although, be warned, the idea of taking lower riding cars and giving them a suspension adjustment that puts them up in the air isn’t a new one.
Rumors of a jacked up Porsche 911 Safari edition made the rounds last year and Subaru went so far as to show a Cross Sport Concept which was a BRZ wagon with cladding like the MX-5. The key things to take away from this are that these were all renderings, rumors, and one-offs so you won’t be offroading in your MX-5 anytime soon.
