For Dodge Challenger owners who feel that their modern-day muscle cars don’t exude quite enough classic style, Mopar has come to the rescue with a stylish and functional shaker hood kit. Sadly, you’re still going to have to look to aftermarket to fill your air shock and fuzzy dice needs.
Dodge offered ram air shaker hoods on recent limited-edition models like the Mopar ’14 Challenger and the Challenger R/T Shaker, but now owners of any 2011-14 Dodge Challenger equipped with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 can add this feature to their car.
Just like classic shaker hoods, the Mopar Challenger Shaker Hood kit lets the air intake poke through the hood allowing you to visualize the engine’s torque with every rev. This will help make a stock Challenger R/T look more like the Challenger R/T Shaker shown below, which Dodge limited to just 2,000 units.
For $2,660, the Mopar Challenger Shaker Hood kit includes the aluminum hood and all of the air intake components, which Mopar assures will bolt directly on with no modifications.
Theoretically, this should be an easy afternoon project for the do-it-yourselfer, but the hood only comes prepped for paint so you’ll need to take care of that. Being a Mopar part, Dodge dealers will be happy to get the hood painted and installed for you, and better yet, it all comes with a warranty and lots of testing to ensure fit, finish and quality.
Without giving any specifics, Mopar says that adding the shaker hood kit does add some performance gains, but if nothing else, we’re sure it will be great way to knock a few mpgs off the Hemi’s EPA rating as you mercilessly rev the engine at every stop light.
