You can keep your Porsche 918 Spyder. The Carrera GT is just okay. You can even have the "widowmaker" original Porsche 911 Turbo. As far as badass Porsches go, in my book nothing beats the 959.

Why, you ask? Why the hell not might be a better question. It had turbos. It had technology. It raced in the legendary Group B rally series. It was unbelievably fast in its time and still is even today. It's the ultimate Porsche.

And our pals at XCAR somehow talked their way into driving one. They found it to be a machine that's viscerally fast in a way that modern cars just aren't anymore. It's heavy in steering and braking, it's loud, it's mechanical. You have to work for it.

As Alex says, it set the stage for the supercar battles to come, battles that include the 918 Spyder and its hybrid rivals today. We have much to thank the 959 for.
