For $55,000, This Rare AMC Rebel Machine Seems Like a Steal

For a short time in the late 60s, AMC built the Rebel—in two-door, four-door, and even station wagon variants. Unfortunately, the one-and-done Rebel only lasted four years before being phased out of the lineup. But in its last hurrah, AMC tacked on the ‘Machine’ moniker, turning the normally sedated vehicle into something a bit more.

It featured a 340-horsepower V8, and was meant to drive straight to the drag strip, run a 14-second quarter mile, and then hit up McDonald’s on the way home. In an era that ran rampant with muscle cars, The Machine would always fly under the radar.

For the enthusiasts that bough them, though, they kept their Machines pristine, and now they’re starting to show up back on the market. This one, for example, is for sale in East Freetown, Massachusetts.

 

Originally owned in Florida, the car was kept in a climate-controlled garage for 11 years before finding its way to Massachusetts. With only 30,000 miles on the odometer, this Machine is about as clean as they come.

It features a 4-speed manual gearbox, air-conditioning, and the original red, white, and blue color scheme from the factory. With the very specific traits mentioned above, it makes it only 1 of 2 in the world of its kind, and 1 of only 45 with factory air-conditioning.

At only $55,000 on Hemmings, this one seems like an absolute steal.
