BOLD RIDE
he 2017 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is set to bring a crazy amount of horsepower to the track. It is, after all, up against the impressive Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. How do you compete with that kind of power?
Watch any video of the Camaro testing, and you won’t hear the sound of a supercharger whine—so we already know it’s hiding a naturally aspirated engine.
Take a look at history and you’ll see the Z/28 has gotten a special engine before with the LS7. It makes perfect sense that they’d put another something special under the hood of the new Z/28.
It needs to beat the Mustang and it simply must beat the 505 horsepower of the previous Z/28.
That puts it neatly in the neighborhood of 550ish. This would be easy to hit with direct-injection and revised cylinder heads. Chevy hasn’t said what they’re putting under that hood yet, but no one will be surprised if a 7.0-liter V8 is the answer.
