Dodge Challenger Hellcat Battles 751-HP Hennessey Camaro; Everybody Wins

In what Hennessey labels a “street fight,” a new video shows off what can only be described as American automotive gluttony at its finest. Though, it’s less of a street fight and more of a good ol’ fashioned beatdown. The Challenger Hellcat is a mighty machine, one capable of embarrassing vehicles with much higher price tags, but it’s no match for a the lithe Camaro SS with a big ass blower bolted onto it.

Yes, the Challenger has the infamous supercharged 6.2-liter V8 making 707 horsepower, but it has to lug around 4,469 pounds. The stock Camaro SS, on the other hand, tasks its naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 with moving just 3,685 pounds. So when Hennessey adds a supercharger to the Camaro’s LT1, it should come as no surprise that the lighter car with more power smokes the heavier car with less power.

Surprising results is not what this video is about, though, at least not in my eyes. This video is about one thing, and one thing only: the intoxicating sound coming from the Camaro SS. Take a listen.

As much as popularity in the modern muscle car era is dependent on performance figures, the numbers are not the only factor potential customers should consider when deciding on a car. They also take into consideration which exterior colors are available, the width of the racing stripes, and of course, the sound of the exhaust.

The stock Camaro SS with dual mode exhaust sounds great to begin with, but with the HPE750 kit from Hennessey added, it brings the aural experience to a whole new level. If you’ve ever run a Hellcat at wide open throttle, you’d know it’s no slouch in the sound department. But the Camaro SS gives me goosebumps, and that’s only being heard through a set of crappy speakers.

By the way, with that monster HPE750 package attached, the Hennessey Camaro SS will do 202 mph. John Hennessey, you’re doing good work.
