Think you accomplished a lot by age 21? Think again. Alex Kelsey, a 21-year-old from New Zealand, designed and built his very own rally car. Surprise, it’s very very fast.

Dubbed the MC2, or Mad Creation 2, Kelsey’s unbelievable ride can shoot from zero-to-120mph in a staggering seven seconds. To put that in comparison, that’s faster than a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 or a McLaren F1.

It’s undoubtedly a remarkable achievement, but what makes it even more impressive is his story. Kelsey suffers from dyslexia and barely made it through high school. While he admits he’s not one for schoolbooks, he’s quite adept with 3D design and a stylus.

Kelsey hand-fabricated the MC2’s custom space-frame chassis and mocked-up much of the suspension and powertrain parts by himself. The carbon-fiber body panels might be from a Peugeot, but the engine is from a Formula Renault 3.5 racecar.

In addition to being the designer and builder, he’s also an adept racer. The young Kiwi piloted his old Subaru WRX rally car to a stage win on New Zealand’s National Rally Championship, making him the youngest winner in the history of that championship.

Check out Alex’s Facebook page for more details and updates on the car. The MC2 makes its debut at Rally Hawke’s Bay 2014.
