Every so often, Audi creates a concept that teases our taste for the wonderful and ridiculous. Sometimes a wagon, sometimes a supercar — but this time, it’s a sedan. And it’s a very, very cool sedan virtually begging to be driven.
Set to debut at the Worthersee festival later this month, the Audi A3 Clubsport Quattro concept has us filled with desire. Where the standard A3 misses the cue in originality and design creativity, the Clubsport Quattro concept makes up tenfold.
The new fascia receives a not-so-subtle Quattro upgrade to the grille, which goes along with new aerodynamic fins. These changes give this A3 concept a bit more personality than the tamer A3 on which it’s based, and reminds us some of the Quattro concept we saw earlier in the year.
To go along with these performance-based good looks, comes an even heftier 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine that pushes out 525 horsepower, and is able to race to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. That’s a significant increase over the standard A3’s 200 some odd horses.
The question of the day then seems to be: will Audi ever sell us this beautiful beast? Probably not. Like the GTI W12 concept we saw a few years back, the A3 Clubsport Quattro is another example of “what if” available for viewing only to V-Dub fanboys headed to Worthersee. Oh well.
If you do want to see it up close and in person, then you’ll have to head to Germany between the 28th and 31st of this month to get a glimpse of what could have been.
