You might remember that striking AMG Vision GT that Mercedes cooked up for Gran Turismo 6. Well, now it’s got a virtual rival, called the BMW Vision Gran Turismo. How fitting

This marks the second installment in Gran Turismo’s Vision series, which celebrates the 15th anniversary of the original game by releasing virtual concepts from some of the world’s top automakers.

Effectively, it’s a way of putting the stuff into a virtual car that might still be a bit too daring for a road-going vehicle. But that’s okay, because as long as you have a Playstation 3, you never have to stop driving this one.

Styling is a mix between current M Series lines, throwback ‘70s BMW touring cars, and futuristic panache. The large front and rear diffusers on the BMW Vision GT guarantee road sticking grip, while the vents and louvers are strategically placed to increase performance and reduce drag. Combined with the swollen wheel arches and massive rear wing, it isn’t hard to see the M4 DTM comparisons.

Players ought to be impressed by what’s underneath the skin too. BMW offers up a 3.0L straight-six equipped with M TwinPower turbochargers to deliver an in-game 549-horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque. Power is virtually sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission. And given that the Vision GT’s 2,600-pound curb weight is split evenly from front to rear, GT6 players should be able to expect quite the supercar performance.
Jump on Gran Turismo 6 now to see this no-holds-barred look at the future of BMW. We like what we see.
