We all knew this day would come. The day when Dodge and SRT would consolidate back into one, and Ralph Gilles would decidedly go nuts with power — horsepower, that is. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is his latest experiment, and hell, is it powerful.
With a new 6.2-liter Hellcat HEMI V8, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat unleashes 600 supercharged horses, making it the most powerful V8 Chrysler has ever built from factory. That’s only about 40 shy of the all-powerful Viper’s 8.4-liter V10.
With power rivaling that of the big daddy Viper, this new Challenger truly is “the ultimate performance muscle car,” says Dodge President and CEO, Tim Kuniskis.
Of course, where would “the ultimate performance muscle car” be without a good ol’ fashioned six-speed manual gearbox option, to go along with a nifty new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic. That also makes it the first time an automatic has been offered in the Challenger SRT lineup.
Like its Viper brethren, the Challenger also comes with a new set of driving modes — “Custom,” “Sport,” “Track,” and “Default.” All vary depending on road conditions, and driver preferences, naturally.
In addition to the new Hellcat option, Challenger buyers can still opt for the tamer 485-horsepower SRT with the 392 HEMI V8. That’s also available in either an eight-speed automatic, or a six-speed manual gearbox.
All this badass American power should be hitting dealerships soon.
