Hyundai Vision G Concept Previews a Pretty Future for the Genesis

BOLD RIDE

Already, Hyundai has a well-equipped, handsome-looking luxury sedan in the new Genesis. It’s almost like the Korean alternative to the BMW 5 Series. But in order to luxe’ things up even further, Hyundai designers gave the Genesis a more eye-catching makeover for Pebble Beach.

It’s called the HCD-16 Vision G, and while it’s clearly a gussied up Genesis, it’s still very pretty nonetheless. The front end is more aggressive, the body lines are more grandiose, and according to Hyundai-Kia design chief Peter Schreyer, it balances “design and performance” without all the “stereotypical luxury cues.” That includes the interior, with a dramatic all-white leather trim and wood accents.

Luxury aside, let’s talk about power for a minute. Under the hood there’s nothing to scoff at. The same 5.0-liter V8 found on the current Genesis pumps out 420 horsepower and gives the Vision G that performance balance we were looking for.

The concept made its debut yesterday while on display at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. This weekend you’ll see it on the lawn at Pebble Beach up in Monterey.
