BOLD RIDE
Bugatti is working hard on bringing the world a faster, prettier, and generally more insane vehicle in form of the upcoming Chiron; and that's great. But one thing Bugatti won't be doing is following Bentley and Lamborghini into the high-end SUV space. Sorry, spoiled soccer moms.
CEO Wolfgang Durheimer sat down with Car and Driver at Pebble Beach to discuss this subject, among a few other things. The main topic at hand being the idea of a hotted-up, 200-mph SUV, wearing a Bugatti badge.
"Bugatti is a very special company.” Durheimer continued, “Bugatti is ultra-sharp. We are positioned at the very top of the automotive market. We don't intend to change our brand perception and our market position. We will remain ultra-sharp and at the very top."
While Durheimer remains adamant against an SUV or a sedan like the Galibier (pictured here), he did let slip an extra detail about the still-yet-to-be-confirmed Chiron. Essentially, the goal is to "do it much better next time." Color us excited.
What do we know about the new Chiron so far? Rumor has it that it's going to generate somewhere in the market of 1,600 horsepower, with a 0-60 mph time of under 2.0 seconds. As for top speed—expect to see somewhere near 288 mph.
