New Corvette Stingray buyers are flocking to Chevy dealerships in hoards. Chevy is selling so many new Corvettes, in fact, that they’re raising the price by over $1,000 to get a little bit of extra scratch. But that’s not the story here, the real story is that nearly 40% of all Stingray buyers are opting for a manual transmission. Huzzah!
According to Edmunds, 40% of buyers are choosing the ‘Vette’s smooth seven-speed manual, over the not-so-great six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. This also ties in with over 55% of buyers opting for the Z51 performance package, which includes performance brakes, an aero package, suspension, and a few other goodies.
Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran said the new Stingray is in “short supply,” and Chevy has sold some 19,915 Corvettes in 2014. The average “days-to-turn” since the car was launched is 19.
So far, it seems that the new Corvette is off to a blazing start, and the manual gearbox is staying strong. Only question is — next year, when Chevy fits the new Corvette with the eight-speed automatic from the Z06, will we see a drop in manual sales? We’ll have to watch the numbers and find out.
