707-HP Dodge Challenger Hellcat is the Most Powerful Muscle Car Ever [w/Video]

Boldride

What do you get when you mix a bit of insanity, with a ton of horsepower? The answer to that question is the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, which was officially rated yesterday at a mind-bogginling 707 horsepower, and 650 lb-ft torque. That’s the most horses to come from a production muscle car in the history of ever.

All that power is derived from a supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8. And while it puts out more power than damn near every other car on the market, as equally impressive is the good ol’ manual gearbox. It’s a new 8HP90, in comparison to the old 8HP70, and it’s admittedly received a few tweaks.

SRT manager of product design, Dan Reid, says that the new 8HP90 gearbox has been “upgraded to handle the extra power and torque.” As it should be.
Right now, Dodge hasn’t given us any clue as to just how much this all-American machine will cost. But considering it puts out more power than the Viper ($100K+), and more power than anything else in it’s class — it ain’t gonna be cheap.

One thing we can tell you though is back are the glory days of the muscle car. Thank you, Dodge.
