Top-Rated 2014 Sedans: Initial Quality

The annual J.D. Power Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) analyzes data regarding vehicle quality from thousands of verified new car, truck, SUV, and van buyers who have owned their new vehicles for at least 90 days.
 
 From this research, J.D. Power formulates Power Circle Ratings to provide consumer-friendly representations of the data to car buyers when shopping for a new or used vehicle.
 
This Top-Rated 2014 Sedans guide lists the models that receive a Power Circle Rating of 5 (out of a possible 5) for overall initial quality.
 
 
 
 
2014 Chevrolet Malibu
 
A midsize family sedan, the Chevy Malibu received numerous enhancements for the 2014 model year, and the changes appear to have resonated with buyers. The Malibu is offered with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine or a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, each paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission powering the front wheels.
 
 
 
2014 Hyundai Accent
 
A small car, the Accent sedan is the least expensive model in Hyundai's lineup. Offered in a single level of trim and equipped with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, the Accent comes standard with a manual gearbox. An automatic transmission is optional.
 
 
 
 
2014 Hyundai Elantra
 
The EPA officially rates the Hyundai Elantra as a midsize car even though it competes against other compact models. Three versions of the 2014 Elantra sedan are available: GLS, Sport, and Limited. The GLS and Limited have a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, while the Sport is equipped with a more powerful 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. A manual gearbox is standard for the GLS and Sport, while an automatic transmission is included for Limited versions.
 
 
 
 
2014 Hyundai Genesis
 
A full-size, rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan, the 2014 Genesis is available with a V-6 or a V-8 engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The R-Spec version contains the V-8 and includes larger 19-in. aluminum wheels and a sport suspension to enhance performance. A redesigned 2015 Genesis went on sale in spring of 2014.
 
 
 
 
2014 Hyundai Sonata
 
Hyundai's midsize family sedan, the Sonata, is offered with a choice between a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, the latter generating 274 horsepower.
 
 A 6-speed automatic transmission feeds the power to the car's front wheels. A redesigned 2015 Sonata is on sale in summer of 2014.
 
 
 
 
2014 Kia Cadenza
 
In its first year of American sales, the Kia Cadenza full-size sedan ranks highest in its segment in initial quality.
 
The Cadenza is offered only with a 3.3-liter V-6 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive.
 
 
 
 
2014 Lexus LS
 
The flagship Lexus sedan, the LS is offered in regular- and extended-wheelbase format, and with a choice of a 4.6-liter V-8 with an 8-speed automatic transmission or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain using a 5.0-liter V-8 engine and a continuously variable transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional.
 
 
 


2014 Lincoln MKS
 
A full-size luxury sedan, the Lincoln MKS is equipped with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine and front-wheel or all-wheel drive. A twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V-6 engine is optional, paired only with all-wheel drive.
