Hennessey Cranks the Corvette Z06 Up to 800 Horsepower

BOLD RIDE

If you’re a fan of the Corvette, you certainly have options when it comes to performance–there’s the potent 460-horsepower Stingray and the stomping 650-horsepower Z06. To each their own. But if you require more “go” from the ‘Vette, well…you’re covered there too.
Texas tuning shop Hennessey Performance has put the finishing touches on their HPE800 package for the 2015 Corvette Z06. As its name would suggest, it generates an even 800 horsepower from the Z06’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8. That’s certifiably “a lot” of power, and the manic sportscar recently put its grunt to the test on track. Take a look.

In the video, the Hennessey team unleash the tuned Corvette at Ellington Airport in Houston, Texas, achieving a scintillating dash up to 175 miles per hour. And what a sound it makes at full open throttle. The HPE800 kit furthers the Z06’s punching power thanks to the addition of a new supercharger pulley, high-flow cylinder heads, upgraded valves and lifters, new camshaft, and a cold air intake.

While 800 ponies rampaging at the rear wheels is quite the mountain of power, it isn’t the nuttiest setup that the Texas firm has given to a GM performance car. Back in 2013, Hennessey fitted the Cadillac CTS-V with twin turbochargers and conjured up a towering 1,200 horsepower and 1,109 lb.-ft. of torque. Will the C7 Corvette get to that level? Time will tell, but Hennessey might need a longer runway for that test.
