Californian Earnie Hooks must really, really want a Ferrari 458. In fact, he must have liked a certain example of the nearly-600 horse exotic so much, the he swiped it not once, but twice. At least that’s what Southern California cops allege.
The 39-year-old Studio City man either was out for revenge on an acquaintance, trying to impress neighbors, or just really in love with one person’s 458 Spider.
Hooks was stopped at a drunk-driving check point in Fontana on Aug. 29. While he was pulled over cops discovered that the 2014 458 Spider he was driving had been reported stolen.
Hooks fled and officers lost pursuit, only to find the Ferrari abandoned nearby. The car was impounded.
Hooks was then accused of breaking into the impound lot around 3 a.m. on Aug. 30 and stealing the car back. He was spotted driving the car five days later on Sept. 4 in Studio City and arrested.
Look, we know the 2014 Ferrari 458 Spider retails for more than $250,000.
But stealing one and then trying to steal it back from the impound lot isn’t very bright. Hooks is currently in jail with a $5 million bail and he faces two felony counts of vehicle theft and one misdemeanor count of obstructing or resisting police.
Working hard to get wealthy enough to buy a Ferrari sucks, but it can’t be as bad as jail.
