The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is set up to be the next big thing, but GM hasn’t shared any details about what to expect when the car is finally unveiled. We have little bits here and there based on spy shots, but nothing confirmed.
Based on those spy shots, it’s possible to at least make a few guesses about how it might look.
These renderings from Top Speed show what those spy shots might turn into once all that crazy camo is removed. It’s not going to be a complete redesign, but more of a natural evolution from where the car is today to where it’s going to be in the future.
As for confirmed information on the Camaro, there is really very little. It will ride on GM’s Alpha platform that’s found on the Cadillac ATS and CTS. It will also remain rear-wheel drive, with that new platform giving it some defense against the new Mustang’s independent rear suspension.
Possible engines are a mystery, but there’s a chance Chevy could try a four-cylinder in response to the Mustang’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. Once again, the Camaro could borrow a little something from the Cadillac ATS and CTS with their 2.0-liter turbo I-4 engines ripe for the taking.
One area not in these pictures that’s sure to see some significant improvements is the interior. The Ford Mustang has set that bar very high, so Chevy has some work to do if they don’t want to be seen as an also-ran when people open the door.
