Got a big ranch to run? Need to ford some rivers or cross a desolate mountain range? Have we found the right truck for you!
This absolutely mammoth machine is a 1989 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 1250L “Doka” (double cab), up for sale at the Mastodon Motor Company in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. After a life of valiant service spent protecting the coast of Denmark, it’s in need of a home on these shores.
Built by Mercedes-Benz in 1989, this bright red Unimog enlisted with the Royal Danish Navy and soon went to work as a coastal rescue vehicle. That helps to explain some of its more specialized features.
Underneath, the Doka packs a hard-pulling 5.9-liter turbodiesel straight-six engine, good for 125 horsepower and oodles of torque, along with a manual transmission and Unimog fast axles that allow for a much higher top speed of around 60 mph.
Which is quite an accomplishment considering the truck weighs in the neighborhood of six tons. Over its lifetime it has traveled 19,000 miles.
Inside, the 1250L Doka features styling by Pininfarina – that’s a lie. The dashboard is typically spartan and comes fitted with many lights, switches, and a 12-inch Simrad radar screen.
Being that it’s a Doka, there’s even room for your whole family in the second row. The price to take it home? A cool $65,000.
