‘ACR’. That three-letter acronym stands for American Club Racing, and in the minds of diehard Mopar fans, occupies a space of Dodge Viper royalty. To the layperson though, ‘ACR’ has somewhat lost its verbal punch since it hasn’t adorned the rear haunches of the current generation Viper.
But that’s all about to change, because Chrysler is bringing it back— in conceptual form at least. And it doesn’t disappoint.
Set to debut at the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas on November 4, this is the 2014 Dodge Viper ACR Concept, a blueprint for improving the already potent breed and hopefully a literal blueprint of things to come. Intended to decimate the track, you’ll be happy to note that the racing-stripe laden ACR comes with enough kit to do so.
The concept boasts a carbon fiber splitter at the front, competition wing at the rear, carbon fiber aero ducting throughout, a differential cooler, 19-inch wheels, massive 15.4-inch carbon ceramic two-piece rotors, along with hefty Brembo six-piston chompers.
Inside, it’s much of the same story, and the headlines read “hardcore.” You won’t find a radio, nor speakers, carpet, or sound-deadening material. Instead, that’s all been replaced with air…and more carbon fiber. However, you will find Alcantara suede on the steering wheel, shift knob, and seats.
And just to remind you that you’re simply driving a racecar with a road permit, the steering wheel is adorned with a center indicator at the 12 o’clock position. Now how badly do you want one?
