Detroit Electric released a teaser image of the significantly redesigned SP:01 earlier this month, and now they’ve followed up with a picture of what they say will be the final version of their electric car. They’ve lost the original roadster design in favor of a fastback coupe that looks pretty fantastic, actually.

They’re touting their two-seater as the world’s fastest production electric sports. It will do 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and will hit a top speed of 155 MPH. Production is slated to start later this year in the UK with the car going on sale in Asia, Europe and North America in 2015.

The design changes weren’t purely aesthetic, but were made to improve the car’s aerodynamics. This includes a large rear wing and an under-body diffuser to both reduce lift and improve downforce at higher speeds.

There are also now front air intake and outlet ducts on the hood which have a new shape that optimizes airflow for the heating and air conditioning system.

The car’s battery packs have also been given a new composite casing that’s an important part of the car’s structure.

It serves to improve torsional rigidity and protects the batteries from punctures in the event of an accident, which makes it seem like they’re taking a little cue from Tesla and their battery puncture issues.
