When it comes to performance, the pinnacle measure of speed and handling lies within the famed Nurburgring lap time. Since the track’s inception, automakers have been putting their performance cars to the test, hoping to best the competition.
Claiming an insane 6:42 lap around the ‘Ring, that bests the quickest lap time by six seconds (Radical SR8 LM, 6:48). But even more mind-blowing, that’s a full 15 seconds faster than the Porsche 918 hypercar (6:57).
If it all sounds too good to be true, though, it might be. The figure comes directly from SCG via Instagram…but then even they claim it never actually happened later on Facebook. Due to noise restrictions, the SCG003 was black-flagged from running a record lap, but instead, ran an 8:12 second lap around both the Nurburgring Grand Prix course and the Nordschleife (North Loop), according to Digital Trends.
Factoring in the extra time for the GP course, SCG figures it ran around the Nordschleife somewhere near 6:42. And even then, it was done with weight ballasts and restricted horsepower.
Without those limits, SCG says its supercar should “kiss 6:30 on street tires.
Sure, it all sounds impressive— but SCG isn’t getting any applause from us until it actually happens.
