The 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB will be making its official debut in a few more months. This new, mid-engine V8 turbo is the first turbocharged, mid-engine Ferrari since the 1987-1992 Ferrari F40. Once it makes its debut, then there’s a high chance we will see a faster and more powerful version, like this imagined Scuderia.
Ferrari has set up a pattern for its mid-engine V8 cars by releasing the standard model first, then following with a kicked-up version. These road-racer variants have given us some incredible cars like 360 Challenge Stradale from 1999-2004 and the F430 Scuderia.
Both were lighter and had more horsepower than the cars on which they were based. Stands to reason the same will be true with the upcoming 488 GTB.
The folks at Top Speed have come up with a rendering of this possible car and even given it a name. Their 2017 Ferrari 488 GTB Scuderia has all-new body panels to differentiate it from its sibling shown below. There’s a lower carbon-fiber splitter with fin-shaped plates on each side and aerodynamic flaps to feed air through the radiators. Side skirts, roof, and side intakes are all exposed carbon fiber.
The interior will be spartan, with just enough comfort to get you back and forth to the track. Transmission buttons will sit on the center console with most functions being controlled with steering wheel buttons. Power will come from the same twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8, but enhancements could boost it from 660 hp to around 700 hp.
