Go to a Mazda dealership in the next few months, and you can probably walk away happy paying no more than $35,000 for a brand new Mazda Miata. Fully loaded, too. So if that’s the case, why would someone dish out $55,000 for one? Well, it was all for a good cause.

Hitting the auction block at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital auction a few weeks back, the 1-of-1,000 Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition raked in an impressive $55,000. All of which went back to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital—and the owner walked away with one pretty handsome little roadster.

The special edition Miata in question features a Soul Red paint scheme, a beige interior and a few other optional extras as standard. Not to mention the best part: a six-speed manual gearbox.

But the real winner here were the children of St. Jude’s, that—thanks to partners like Mazda and one happy bidder—will “never receive a bill from St. Jude.” Doesn’t that just make you all warm and fuzzy?
