Mitsubishi Teases Final Edition Lancer Evo

The end of the line has arrived for the storied Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, a compact car with genuine supercar-rivaling performance. But before the Evo drives on into the sunset, Mitsubishi will send it off with a limited run of “Final Edition” cars.
Over the weekend, the automaker hosted a Mitsubishi Owners’ Day event at their Cypress, California headquarters, and in front of throngs of fans, revealed a near-finalized version of that last special edition car. Official specifications are still unknown and visually there may be changes waiting in the wing, but Left Lane News reports a few key details gleaned from a company spokesperson.

According to the site, the Final Edition Lancer Evolutions will be fitted with Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, Brembo two-piece front disc brakes, and 18-inch BBS wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan tires. To the delight of fans, the Evo will indeed receive a bump in horsepower, though it’s noted to be a “slight bump,” aided in part by sodium-filled exhaust valves.
Outside, Mitsubishi will reportedly dress these Final Edition cars in one of five colors (red, white, gray, black, or blue), with roof panels color-matched in either black or white. Inside, it would appear to be business as usual for the Evo, though this prototype shows red stitching on the bucket seats, steering wheel, shift knob, and center console.

Mitsubishi jump-started its ordering process for the Final Edition series in the Japanese market earlier this year, which will receive 1,000 of the special Lancer Evo cars. Later this year, 1,600 final Evo Lancers will make their way to the North American market.

And it begs the question—what will replace the compact super sedan? Likely, a super SUV. Mitsubishi executives have previously noted their intent to deliver the power and enjoyment of the Evo…just in a larger platform, which makes a hotter-than-hot Outlander Sport look even more plausible.
