BOLD RIDE

Today’s Ram trucks line offers highly capable, highly refined off-road packages for those looking to leave the blacktop behind in favor of dirt and gravel. For those Ram customers looking to go a bit further still, American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) has a new suite of upgrades on offer.

Meet the “Prospector.”

The package comes designed for the current generation Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, and adds on body protection, suspension upgrades, and additional trail gear, with prices starting at $13,925 for the base model. That’s in addition to the price of the pickup itself.

For that coin, AEV heaves on an aggressive stamped steel front bumper, equipped with the ever-necessary fog lights and a burly 16,500-pound Warn winch. One of two blacked-out wheel options find their way into the fender flared wheel arches, and now come wrapped in massive 37-inch BFG mud terrain tires. Those sizable meats have extra room to operate, thanks to AEV’s three-inch DualSport suspension lift, which the company says has been tuned for both on- and off-road driving.

A new instrument cluster, AEV badging and decals, as well as headrests round out the base package, though options abound for further off-road upgrading. AEV offers a heavy-duty snorkel style air intake, off-road light bars, leather seating upgrades, retractable running boards, a roll-out bed storage system, tonneau cover, and can raise the truck’s differential gearing if low-end grunt is what you’re after.

It certainly delivers on visual impact too, as does AEV’s other hulking creation–a V8 Jeep Wrangler pickup truck, nicknamed the Brute.
